The Civic Award is a tribute to the spirit of patriotism and national pride exemplified by the assembly’s program of activities. In order to qualify, the assembly must conduct and report at least four varied patriotic programs held within the fraternal year. For the 2017-2018 fraternal year, St. Andrew the Apostle Assembly #3591 submitted the following programs in our spirit of patriotism:

  • Assembly #3591 Honor Guard participated in the following patriotic events:
    • November 5th: The Red, White and Blue mass honoring all branches of the Military.
    • November 11th: The 2017 Veterans Day parade.  Our Honor Guard was also part of the Color Guard for this event.
    • December 6: The arrival of USS Arizona flag at American legion Post 39 in Gilbert.
  • Veterans Day: We served a free continental breakfast after all Sunday Morning masses to all Veterans, Active servicemen, Police and Fire including their families.  All Veterans were recognized after each Mass on Veterans Day weekend.
  • Memorial Day:  We collected an estimated 1,200 pairs of socks over a three week period leading up to Memorial Day and donated all collections to the Northern Arizona VA Medical Center, Prescott, AZ.  This donation will support the Veterans’ Assistance program for the next six months.
  • Coats for Veterans:  We expanded our coats for Kids program to include Coats for Veterans.  More than 200 Coats were distributed to the Justa Center.

I am pleased and proud to report that Assembly #3591 received the Civic Award for the 2017-2018 Fraternal year.  There are 44 Assemblies in Arizona and ~30% receive this award.  The following message was received from our District Master:

Sir Knights,

“It is with great pride that I can inform you of your Assembly’s selection as a recipient of the Civic Award. Your Assembly was honored with this award because of your commitment to the principles of the Patriotic Degree.  My sincere thanks for the effort that you put into achieving this recognition and helping to make the John H. Reddin Province and the State of Arizona a cut above. “
